The first stage of a full shower repair is demolition. The shower screen is removed along with all of the tap fittings and seals. The base is removed to access the p-trap and the tiles and walls are removed to access the timber studwork behind and to check for water damage.

The second work-stage of this shower repair is to prepare the shower floor for a new base to be installed. The old P-trap is removed and a new p-trap is to be installed. The bottom of the base is the glued to the concrete slab or floor underlay using industrial flexible Adhesive. There is also the option of laying a concrete screed on the base if you choose to have a tiled base using envelope style cuts. Shower Repairs which have tiled bases require sufficient fall to the waste so the screed must be set correctly for this to happen. This allows water to drain sufficiently.

Bespoke Renovations Melbourne Bathroom Shower Repair Project Waterproofing Stage

The following work-stage of this shower repair is to reline the walls. The studwork needs to be leveled to avoid lips when tiling and so they align up correctly.

The following work-stage of this shower repair is to re-sheet the walls using gyprock plasterboard. The sheet joins are then plastered. It is very important in all shower repairs that the sheets and base are properly sealed using flexi seal ( Balcony Sealer ). If this is not done correctly your shower may leak in through the walls.

The waterproofing work-stage of any shower repair must comply with th VBA ( Victorian Building Authority ) standards to ensure that there is no further damage to the internal of the property.

The next workstage of this shower repair is the tiling of all inside walls of the shower. To ensure the maximum lifespan of the adhesive which is used to glue the tiles to the sheets, the correct quality products must be used. Bespoke Renovations Melbounre recommends using a high end flexible adhesive rather than using cheap less superior products which will cause issues in years to come such as tiles coming away from the shower walls. The bottom row of tiles needs to meet the top of the base so that when the shower is sealed it provides a proper seal. If there is gaps of more than 2mm of any main junction join there is a chance your shower will leak over time.

Grout booster should be used in all shower repairs when grouting. Grout booster provides a layer of plastic in the grout which provides a proper seal, avoiding cracks in the joins for the months to come. All the seals should be applied using maxiseal industrial strength swimming pool silicone. The shower fittings are then careful installed, each fitting needs to be sealed where the fitting penetrates through the tile to provide a sound seal and to avoid leaks.

The final work-stage of this shower repair is to install a new fully framed shower screen. The greatest of care is taken when installing the shower screen to ensure no scratches or marks are left on the tiles or base. The shower screen channels are fitted to the tiles and sealed. The shower base is then sealed on both sides to ensure no water comes out of your wet area.
